Water transport in trees

I saw this and thought it was interesting.
Sap flow is a complicated process!

imagine how this must work in deserts where water is scarce.

One of my favorite parts of the process is that when the sun’s energy becomes unavailable at the end of the day, at least some tree species, such as maples, will release water that was brought from subsoil into the topsoil, giving the tree access to that richer and warmer medium. It also helps understory species with shallower root systems to withstand drought.
