This is a photo of my Fuji grafted onto a seedling rootstock this spring. One by one the branches seem to be dying. We have had temps in the eighties and rain about every other week for the last thirty days.
Below is a healthy branch.I believe that is fireblight. Fireblight has many different ways it manifests. That particular pattern is a common late fireblight manifestation and this year seems to have been bad for it - I also have a lot of it now. Prune it out.
Got it. Thanks for the response Scott!!
Watching an out door movie with the inlaws but slipped off and doused my pruners with bleach and cut it out. Hope this fixes the issue .
Out of curiosity, do any of the affected branches have cankers on them…I just removed an Anna apple that had a huge dark spot (canker) on the main trunk and the leaves on some of the branches above turned completely brown just like yours. The nursery that sold it to me said it would be fine…well, it wasn’t I’ll be taking it back this weekend.
Hope yours is able to come back.
I did not see any canker on the branches. It seemed to start more toward the ends of the branch and the tips of the leaves with browning.
interesting, I am by no means an expert, just speaking from my recent experience, maybe there are cases where the fire blight doesn’t develop from a canker. on the plus side the rest of your tree looks very healthy.
Yes it really does, it should loose its leaves in the next month and a half and go dormant for the winter. Hopefully this won’t be a reoccurring issue
