I’m looking for a chart that lists summer and winter squashes by growth habit…I’d like to know which are low growing bushes and which are climbers…by variety. Has anyone seen anything like this? Thanks.
Given the opportunity I think almost all will climb 6’
I agree with what @RichardRoundTree said. My butternut squash climbed up on my chain link fence and the main vine grew more than 6 ‘’ long
I agree. I had a Georgia Candy Roaster climb way up in a Hawthorne last year. Well over 6 ft high.
I’m going to try a Tromboncino summer squash and a Black Futsu winter squash specifically to trellis this year.
I’d assume all will climb AT LEAST 6’ unless they’re listed as bush varieties. The exception is most summer squash in the US are selected for more of a bush habit, so they will be bush unless listed as vining. Some squash will really take off. Seminole pumpkin grows vines 30’+ long, which is probably close to the maximum. You probably won’t find a comprehensive list anywhere, as there are so many varieties out there.
