Rutabagas are easy to grow, but you have to know when to plant them. For my area, that is over the next 2 or 3 weeks. Turnips can wait a week or two longer. I sometimes plant them the first week of September.

All of y’all’s descriptions of enjoying turnip roots and rutabagas has emboldened me to lay my hands on them and try preparing them in the fashions recommended. They sound to be delicious but I have always passed them over at the grocery stores.
