I just planted muscadine vines this year and am working on training them down the wire of my trellis. I’m wondering if you’re supposed to twist the vine around the wire as it goes down the wire or just attach it to sit on top of the wire and let the tendrils wrap around it. Thanks in advance

My muscadines are tied loosely around the wire…have not tried wrapping around it. Randy/GA

I don’t know what is the correct answer and I don’t know of any videos addressing it. My best guess is that either wrapping or not will work. I have started doing a loose wrap about every two-three feet. During the development time I sometimes use temporary ties and or clothespins. Prior to this year I have taken off the tendrils regardless of where they are attached but this year I’m encouraging tendril attachment to the wire only. The vine has a tendency to turn over on the wire the next spring when new vines emerge. I’m hoping the attached tendril will stabilize the vine placement until it is more rigid.
