Young plum branch sheared off, options?

This branch was growing beautifully on my new AU Rubrum plum, now there’s 4 main branches left. Maybe an animal did it?
I’m posting to see if anyone has creative ideas to save it. It’s about 1’ last years growth, another foot or so of green growth. Could I root the woody part like a cutting, or if I grafted it to some hardy root stock, is there a chance it would take at this point in the season? Any thoughts appreciated!
