I’m a full time worker and a part time gardener but that part time sometimes encroaches on my full time job. I also have a DH that embraces the plant world and he is officially retired and I keep him tired helping with my projects while he tries to complete his own. We are into vegetable gardening and try to preserve in some way all that we grow. We are branching out into unknown fields in order to grow more things we love to eat and enjoy looking at.

We have a long growing season here in Texas and have a spring/summer garden and a fall/winter garden. Still there are some things that we just have no luck with. My DH is from England and we have tried to incorporate some of his fav foods and fruits here. It’s a challenge and some years hit it and some don’t.

This year we have started berries. Raspberries (notorious for not liking the heat); Blackberries (grow wild here–with THORNS); Strawberries; and Goji berries (the new health craze). Then last week we won two blueberry plants in a raffle. Those will be a challenge in our neutral soil. We have also put in an asparagus bed this year and all the crowns are growing ferns on skinny little shoots.

All of this new “stuff” is possible because of the wealth of information on the internet and it was in one of these searches that I found this forum. I am excited because it seems from what I’ve read today there is a group of people here with a wealth of information. So I may have lots of questions!
