Thanks. Will do. We could put a spark back in that category
Hey, are you still happy with the sprayer you bought in this thread. I need to be able to spray surround as my one gallon sprayer is clogged and I can’t get it working.
Thanks
Is the Osatu a diaphragm sprayer? I understood that to be the best set up for Surround. Did the people at Oesco address that?
Hi Jim,
This is the one.
I like it. The only thing I don’t like is one side of the shoulder strap is a hook on. It, sometimes, come loose. The internal piston pump and the mechanical agitation are great features. A strainer comes in handy when dealing with powder like Surround. I sprayed Surround many times last year. Never clogged.
In case anyone is looking for a bit smaller model, I am planning on buying this 12L version on ebay. I have no idea whether it is equivalent to the other one described here, but I didn’t need one quite as large and this seemed like a deal. Hopefully I won’t regret it and it will be easier to use than my hand held 2 gallon.
Zendog,
Hope it works out for you. I kinda wonder how come that one is so cheap. $29.99 for a 2 gal.
My 16 Star 4 gallon was $110/120.
I don’t fill it up to 4 gallon. Too heavy for me. I usually carry only 3 gallon weight. I gave 30 trees, almost half are still 2-3 years old. Even the 4 gallon sprayer, I still need to refill to cover all the trees.
Just wondering if you still like the osatu sprayer? Small female build here too, and I have to get a sprayer and will be using surround. Edit Nevermind as it looks unavailable to purchase anywhere in the US now.
Thanks for reporting, as I have wondered about getting one of these. Covering individual applets with orchard sox/footies while removing spare fruit works well now, but spraying Surround™ might be helpful once they all reach mature size.
I think the URL just changed. @mamuang is this the correct one? (I need to upgrade my sprayer too.)
The model is STAR-16-GREEN.
I bought the DB Smith Field King recommended elsewhere on the site. I haven’t had it for very long, but it’s worked as well as the 3 gal tank sprayer I had before. For me I need to replace the hose & wand, but for somebody shorter the hose may not be a problem.
Yes, it is. I like it. Easy to use. I still use it to these days.
With Surround, I mixed it thoroughly using a helix paint mixer and poured the solution through a strainer into Osatu. No issue with clogging.
@Eme
I usually carry only 3 gallon weight. When I carry 4 gallon, I feel it is too heavy for me.
Off topic, but you like the nylon socks more than organza bags? How do you secure them?
Thank you! I’ve been lugging around a 2 gallon battery sprayer with one shoulder strap and manually shaking it every so often…as my trees get bigger, it’s becoming more of a pain.
I really like my sprayer. Its agitator works real well. Its shape fits me (my back well. It don’t like a Solo round shape.
I have a battery powered ryobi 2 gal that works decently
How many trees can you cover with 2 gallons?
It depends on how big are the trees and what stage you are spraying. Before they leaf out, you can spray more trees as there are no leaves to cover. Once fully leaf out, sometimes, I spend 2 gallons cover 3 mature plums and peach trees to be thoroughly covered.
Sounds about same as my coverage rate…
I spent 2 gallons to cover 4 mature trees: partially leafed out peach tree, 2 apple trees and a sour cherry bush.
I’d like to mention Solo 4900445 Sprayer Carbon Fiber Telescoping Wand. It’s pricey, but it makes spraying mature trees a breeze. Wand length can be adjusted on the fly, which is really convenient. Another important aspect, long reach allows operator to stay further away from any overspray, which really important when spraying non-organic matter.
