2024 Spring Grafting Thread

What caught my attention was that there were two neglected, old apple trees on the other side of the chain link fence, wedged between the parking lot and the wetlands. Both were bearing nice looking fruit, even though the rootstocks had long since sprouted and had equal sized trunks. Both had good flavor and texture, but this one seemed more unique. On the large end of crab size, kind of like the mini “lunchbox” apples. Really nice flavor. So of course I had to graft it!

I’ve been calling it Wendy’s Crab, but I’m wondering if the apples will be larger when properly pruned and thinned. I’m pretty sure these were planted when there was a house at this location, so in the early 60s or before. And it’s almost certainly a named variety, but who knows what.
