Probably fungal, there are a handful of fungal issues that can hit strawbs. It will probably get worse now that it is in your patch but I have found being fairly aggressive during the spring with sprays before any fruit sets is enough to knock things back long enough to stay on top of it
Keeping your patch pruned enough with good airflow and light helps too
That looks good. I will have to consider that in future
Prior years I put down a lot of straw. This year I didn’t so they’re probably more in contact with moisture.
I’ve managed to get two strawberries so far this year, the slugs have gotten the rest as they are ripening. Just like last year. I put down some slug baits, DE, and beer traps, and they seem to be having minimal effect so far. If there is not a noticable improvement soon I will likely be giving up on strawberries in the bed and put them in a tower on the deck where I can more easily control pest acsess.
I had a good crop of strawberries this year.. but mine are done producing now.
I have a few eversweet that will produce more just here and there… and some new this spring Evie2 that may produce some this fall.
A few pics from this spring.
I made a bunch of strawberry and mulberry jam.

For me, the most effective approach was a good ol fashion night hunt. Duh out my headlamp and picked a couple dozen and put them in a ziplock bag so they couldn’t escape

My second flush of berries is starting to ripen up (first of the year all went to earwigs and pill bugs). Seems like so far I keep picking when red but flavor isn’t fully there yet. How long do folks let their berries go after turning red? The sweet spot I found with blueberries was about a week this year, but my strawberries have way more peat pressure and that makes me anxious
One of my strawberry plant doing this, all the flowers turn into leaves (or fruit + leaves). Any idea what causing this? Other plants in the same bed seem normal.
What is your secret for getting such big, mold-free strawberries? The variety, your horticultural technique, or both? This strawberry season was a big disappointment for me, just a few handfuls of small berries. I need to do better next year! I thought that mulching with pine bark fines would help, but still had a lot leaves that had bronze/red color.
he has amazingly rich soil. strawberries are heavy feeders.
Sounds like fertilizing with key nutrients during the fall may be the key?
def. cant hurt.
@Yoda … I just plant them and they grow and do well. Most varieties anyway.
I did plant a nice patch of earli glow a few years back and they did not do well. Late summer and fall the leaves turned brown and the whole crown would rot.
I got one good crop off them and they were delicious… too bad they could not hack it here.

i grew galletta, which one of its parents is ealiglow and it had a hard time in july and aug. here.
Do you have pineberries? I have some like that too, and I was wondering if they might be accidental hybrids, they’re very flavourful and sweet similar to pineberries but bigger, white flesh inside.
strange that they’re tasteless, here (Belgium) they’re extremeley aromatic and sweeter than regular strawberries.
@Kristofp Is there any specific cultivars that you recommend?
Yes but these are Charlotte in the photo that mutated.
Florida pearl was bland for me as well as second year plants… Pineberry were also not very remarkable.
Yellow wonder has been great as well as the bubble berry but both are tiny…
ive only had the grocery store ones but might get a couple of hawaii 4 this year… we’ll see. Liked em all
