I think they’ll be ok if they aren’t open… I see Sunday a quick warm up here into the low 60Fs is possible…but then right back in the dumps next week…so nothing is going to move much.
46F right now with very cold 30+mph NW winds. Looks like the wind should stop any major drop in temps, but still below freezing we go.
Snowing hard here right now ! The forecast is all over the place on how much we may get over the next few days. No major storm but possible for several inches each of the next few days. The only thing I noticed was doing anything was my hazelnut tree was starting to bloom . I have no idea how much cold they can handle but it will be in the teens several nights coming up.
This Orangered has a 750 watt heater inside. Last yr it was 10ft tall. This yr I cut it down to half that tall to make it much easier to cover. Last yr it was a two tarp tree, this yr one tarp.
This puppy has some kick to her. I’ve got winds gusting to 40mph and the ground is covered with snow. Whiteout at times. Temps hovering around 35F. Low 20Fs north of Minneapolis with some teens along the Canadian border…
I’ve seen spring freeze damage to fruit dozens of times. But only once was there severe damage to the tree. And those weren’t mature trees. Rather it was to rapidly growing newly planted trees. There was about 18-24 inches new growth and low 20s killed about half the new trees and seriously damaged all. The same freeze caused no significant damage to mature trees nearby.
I had a very light frost last night, the thermometer was around 30 degrees this morning at seven. I did not cover much as the wind would just not die down. I guess it must have finally stopped in the wee hours enough for the frost to set.
