And here comes the freeze

I think they’ll be ok if they aren’t open… I see Sunday a quick warm up here into the low 60Fs is possible…but then right back in the dumps next week…so nothing is going to move much.

46F right now with very cold 30+mph NW winds. Looks like the wind should stop any major drop in temps, but still below freezing we go.

I didn’t realize the NE was projected for this kind of cold. Not been good weather this year!

Please warmwx, flood us w/ maps. You follow this stuff so closely, you are becoming my personal weatherman. Appreciate it.

This is so pissing me off. The other night dodging tornadoes and hail. Tomorrow morning 35. Pulled all my citrus out of the greenhouse :rage:

Looks more like spring down your way. You look to be out of all this fun stuff…Have no clue what the second half of April, but it better flip.

From 70Fs (NY)

To 20Fs (60hrs from now)

Then as we go past a week out…around the 9th or 10th…we have another cold shot…that blob around Hudson Bay is causing all kinds of mischief.

Snowing hard here right now ! The forecast is all over the place on how much we may get over the next few days. No major storm but possible for several inches each of the next few days. The only thing I noticed was doing anything was my hazelnut tree was starting to bloom . I have no idea how much cold they can handle but it will be in the teens several nights coming up.

I think your in Michigan?

This covers the next 96hrs…

Another two hrs covering fruit trees. Prior damaging freezes in Febr, March and now April 1 jokes on me.

These will have shop lights covered by blankets, floating row cover, and/or poly film.

This Orangered has a 750 watt heater inside. Last yr it was 10ft tall. This yr I cut it down to half that tall to make it much easier to cover. Last yr it was a two tarp tree, this yr one tarp.

Steve,

I feel your pain. Hang in there. I can’t wait until Mother’s day because no more late frost by then.

Here is the current model prediction for what should Sunday morning (only goes out 60hrs)… for the NE/Lakes

This puppy has some kick to her. I’ve got winds gusting to 40mph and the ground is covered with snow. Whiteout at times. Temps hovering around 35F. Low 20Fs north of Minneapolis with some teens along the Canadian border…

current map

Bad hair day in the upper midwest.

Here is the current obs for the US

I see lots of talk about fruit buds, but what about temps for new green growth like that?

I’ve seen spring freeze damage to fruit dozens of times. But only once was there severe damage to the tree. And those weren’t mature trees. Rather it was to rapidly growing newly planted trees. There was about 18-24 inches new growth and low 20s killed about half the new trees and seriously damaged all. The same freeze caused no significant damage to mature trees nearby.

And look…just when you think this might be done…NEXT Saturday we get to do it again! (its 7 days out…plenty of model changes to come)

High temps yesterday…wowsers! some 80Fs…and 20Fs incoming…

remember…hi temps…so in Ontario it was 11F…for a high temp. That is our air source!

I’m going to protect 4 trees that I love the fruit on, the rest are on their own.

Just anchor them down good. The wind is just roaring over here. You don’t want them ending up in Lake Erie

I had a very light frost last night, the thermometer was around 30 degrees this morning at seven. I did not cover much as the wind would just not die down. I guess it must have finally stopped in the wee hours enough for the frost to set.

Nice legs

That isn’t me! Probably some drunk if he’s from Wisconsin (yes…this state is full of them).

I do remember many winters back, a neighbor of mine was on his roof with a snowblower.
