The Fall colors where pretty much identical to Autumn Magic for me.
I was reminded of this conversation as I just moved into a new house and want to plant some black chokeberry bushes. Does anyone on here have any experience with Nero? At this point, I’m trying to decide between Viking and Nero.
Also, can you post some updated pictures of the Autumn Magics and Vikings? Curious to see their current size.
I planted Viking and Nero next to each other in spring 2022. Both produced far more berries than I expected the following year.

It is still early, but I didn’t notice any obvious difference between them, other than Viking has grown quicker. I had read that it would, so I put it is the slightly shadier location. But, it hasn’t mattered and has grown faster.

Here’s a pic of my Viking and Nero after a bit more than 2 years from planting. The Viking is a bit bigger, as advertised. I didn’t notice last year, but the Nero could have a bit heavier fruit set. Maybe I’ll measure this fall.

I grow Nero and Brilliant. When considering adding Viking to the mix I researched papers to find that Viking grows faster (=greater yield/bush) but otherwise Nero berries are slightly less acidic and slightly juicier. A difference that is hard to notice without a lab. In the end I decided Nero grows fast enough for me and got another Brilliant as a screen from the neighbour’s and variation in fruit colour.
