The asparagus that I planted in 2023 grew incredibly well last year. I only harvested a few spears out of a 7 meter long row, and the plants grew into a 2 meter high dense hedge crowded with thick stems that shaded the adjacent vegetables. This year I will have to harvest all of the spears for a long time to tame the size of the summer growth. That’s not a bad problem to have.
I did mulch the bed with wood shavings.
