Bee house views

They had these at my menards (various styles) for 10 bucks… I bought one. Not sure if its too late to put up this year?

The one I have was bought locally and I think it was one of our dollar type stores. I don’t know the cut off date for egg laying. Some other poster can probably help. If you have a sheltered area for it the worst could happen is that they don’t use it.

They are like condos for bees :honeybee:

I’ll put it up…the directions say to have morning sun on it.

For me mine did not move in the first year i put them out but then my yard was just dead weeds and very little flowers and just some non flowering fruit trees did not entice them to move in! They moved in i want to say year 2 or 3. I think you may be on time or you may be a little late depending on your area but its great to get them set out now, These are solitary bees so any house they decide to move into works good and easier to establish than hive insects.

I purchased some Blue Orchard Bees (Mason Bees) from the northwest and built some great shelters for them. Unfortunately they have not done real well here, and despite babying the cocoons through the winter, their population has dwindled over the last two years. However, I’ve found that leafcutter bees also like the habitat. So no habitat is a bad habitat.;

Do you have any wood peckers around? They will peck out the mud and eat the larvae around here. I use chicken wire to keep the WPs off so that the cutter (mason) bees can do their thing.
