Best way to create a 3/4-in-1

Last years growth for a dormant chip bud but current years growth for summer budding.

Steven, thanks a lot! I will most appreciate any info you will have on (in)compatibilities of K1.

I did not see any source that sold K86 retail (maybe I missed it because the idea of buying and using rootstocks is relatively new to me; many thanks to members of this forum for inspiring me to do this!). I would definitely buy a few K86 to experiment with different varieties.

I only got a couple because ACN had one (maybe others) on K86 and i chopped one of them down and let the rootstock grow out (last summer) and the rabbits ate the other one this winter so hopefully that rootstock will shoot some growth out of it…

edit—looks like a nursery in Britain sells it. Have no idea why it isn’t used more.

from experience I know K86 rooted very easy. Insert a branch in the ground and it will grow

Good to know. Maybe i’ll give that a try this summer.

Four in one plum tree, on prunus americana that was two years old before scaffold grafting two years ago. Lots of flower buds, with any luck…

Closeup of graft unions, with some showing some overgrowth with the scion being thicker than the stock.
