my husband wanted to plant them not very close as the tightly clustered for the wood. he wanted to grow them along with jupiter. he wont be doing weed control i think he is a low maintence guy. maybe mow the lawn once a year sort of thing. he wants to sort of have it more like nature forest but for walnut nuts. and perhaps chestnuts. i dont know why but he has he own idea. but he did say he prefer to growfrom seed and he is patient compared to me.
we will be moving soon perhaps next year then we would know what type of soil. he was trying to head a head start by growing from seeds in pot now then plant them inground when we move. i think i would prefer to just move then start seedling.
i would prefer grafted tree for the qaulity of walnut. but he wants cheapest option which us usually non grafted or from seed. we are very opposites regarding what to do. i do know that it would be an area that we cant grow anything else for a long time.
what if i found local black walnut tree and grow their seeds? would it be more adaptable than other varieties? since it is already growing well for seattle climate.
