Buds Flowers and Fruit - 2023 Edition

everything is happening out of order over there. daffodils are up, but

this hellebore is usually flowering in March, before there’s even any green on the daffies.

here’s some orach, which looks enough like flowers

but why is this warm weather spinach up and going, and my cabbages are two inches across?

at least some trees are starting up.

all the apples I thought were surely done for, are leafing out… at the same time the lilac, which is usually way ahead of them, is just setting buds.

my poppies have returned,

but again, they’re ahead of this bleeding heart, which usually is twice their size in spring.

something’s normal:

the raspberries are on time, and the plum tree, and the tulips.

@Naeem… i was checking on some of my persimmon grafts today and found these on a wild DV here on my place.

Still getting all the lettuce we can eat.

This is my longest running greens bed ever… october to april… so far.

Yes . . . sort of. If they are sheltered they have a good chance of survival. And only a few varieties. Not sure what these are, but the seeds scatter all over our yard and we’ve transplanted some of the seedlings with success. IF placed in the right spot!

No more petals to show, every fruit tree is at petal drop and showing fruit except for my citrus, which are loaded with blossoms this year. Should have a good crop of lemons, but they will not be ready until next year.

This year I will have two types of apricots, two type of peaches, (maybe two types of plums; mirabelles for sure), figs, cherries, and I’m watching my apples. I had to hand pollinate as I had so few fruiting spurs on my Gris du Canada. My Granny Smith is very slowly leafing out; a newcomer. Finished potting my two trees three days ago. Yesterday it rained which was great. We have had little rain this spring.

My strawberries are coming right along. Not one berry on my black currant. Second year in a row. Too much wind. Ugh!

The patch of miner’s lettuce (Claytonia perfoliata) under my Douglas fir has started to flower (more than a little later than usual):

It’s a much milder taste this year, too (almost no oxalate flavor), but still quite pleasant mixed with some other stuff from around the yard & garden. Nom nom nom…

There are some bugs bites but wait for one 70F night and you will see all over.

Aha, I was working up to asking what the one bud that had the red finger like hairs coming out of my small tree was. Figured it was female, but have never had flowers on my Hazelnuts! Thanks!
