if you have portrait mode on it, use that and put your hand behind the flowers to force it to focus on them. that’s why you see my hand in a lot of pictures
I do the hand thing but not the portrait mode.
picture mode, focuses on whatever’s close
portrait mode: focuses on where you tap on the screen
up close it will refuse to focus on sticks or things unless you put your hand behind them.
but it will focus only on where you tap the screen, you can see the coffee is even blurry
This is why I like to take photos at night, with my phone at least. It doesn’t try focusing on a background it can’t see.
Portrait mode is probably applying a depth of field blur filter to the out of focus area, while regularly picture mode is just focusing wherever it’s focusing.
My quince graft:
Bobev’s Triumph is trying to fruit already. I think those are flower buds, anyway.
I’ll pick any fruit off if any sets. Anyone know of it’s good? I would assume for cooking, but not fresh eating? I killed my Crimea graft last year, and my OGW tree was DOA, so survival would be an improvement.
Spice Zee Nectaplum grafting attempt number 2 on Nanking Cherry seems to be growing. I regrafted the other one with Dapple Dandy. I tried grafting Flavor King to it as a bud and cleft graft and neither took. My whip and tongue graft on Krymsk 1 also failed, so I could just suck or the wood may have not been great. Hopefully, it takes and I can graft a second pluot to it next year. Make a combo super dwarf tree.
Apple fruitlets starting to form. These are from Suncrisp, Snapp Stayman, and Goldrush. There’s still some blooms not opened, but soon I’ll need to hit these with Surround, I thought I might have seen a few PC hits down in the barn orchard already.
doesn’t look like either to me- i’ve seen both but not that. Not likrly something to worry about if its only on one apple.
Im just past petal fall and im seeing PC hits already. I even did tanglefoot on the trunk in hopes of catching the early ones but i guess it warmed quickly enough to skip crawling and go straight to flying. Tangle did prevent ants from moving aphids in but there is a lot of bycatch so I’ll probably skip it next year.
I saw the hits on fruitlets on some pears and apples in the orchard by our barn. These trees have been here at least 8 years, so there’s probably an established PC population there.
The pics I took above were on trees in the front yard, and they’ve been there 3 years, so maybe there’s not that many in that general area.
But I don’t really know if PC migrate great distances (the two plots of trees are about 100 yards apart), or if they “hibernate” in the soil under the trees they infested and come out when it’s warm enough and hit the same trees.
I have a Macoun in the older orchard, and it’s still not past petal fall yet, so I can really spray now. It’s my biggest apple tree and is loaded with blooms this year. Apples and pears all bloomed well, peaches, not so much.
My bigger issue is squirrel pilfer just about all my fruit before it even starts to ripen. We have a dog that stays in our front yard area most times so that will help.
I don’t know about distance but I’m pretty sure that I’ve read somewhere that they overwinter in leaf litter. I’m pretty sure that what I read stated that they crawl up the trees earlier while the temps are low but then take flight once the temperatures allow for it.
What I assume was squirrels robbed me blind last year. It was either overnight or early morning when the theft’s occurred so I never observed them directly but I’m determined to not let it happen again this year.
Ate my first two mulberries today. 2 foot tall, 2 branch monster of a tree!
First two ever eaten in my life as well.
Not bad! Interesting flavor. I have nothing to compare it to since I have no history with them.
If the flavor gets better over the years, I’ll be very happy.
What type of mulberry? I’ve only ever had dwarf everbearing which tastes like if sweet was a fruit. No complexity but good nonetheless.
Gone for a week and the garden starts producing. Cukes, matos, peps, black and blewbs and taters not in the pic.
Gerardi
thanks.
Please share all your fruiting plant and tree flower and blossom pictures.
Here is my Perpetua blueberry plant. Impressive number of flowers again this year.
