Buds, Flowers and Fruits- 2025 edition

Birds and wind move Rudbeckia seeds around and it is always interesting to see what comes up and where. They have been coming up for decades.
Some are basic yellow like this:

Others have various patterns like these:

Simple things that grow and feed the ecosystem without me worrying about them…(unlike the fruit trees)

Adding clinopodium vulgare for anyone not familiar. It’s “wild basil” and man does it self seed quickly and fill in spaces as a wonderful beneficial flowering ground cover. It just went into bloom the last few days.

Not pictured here, but I got a few Flavor Grenade pluots go all the way red ripening more inside and tried them…damn to me they tasted a lot like a nectarine!

I’ll try it again with some of these. I’m letting them ripen from this stage on the counter.

On the tree they will pack more flavor and sweetness.

I’m sure…but the birds break the skin if I keep them for longer.

I’ll net the tree next year for sure.

Flavor Grenade Pluot are tasty enough for me at this stage. With their crunch I bet they would be good in a tart or pie.

Hosui looking lovely. A bit of color change on this one in the sun.

A smaller volunteer jumped early. I’m not sure it’s ripe enough to eat. I’ll have to try it.

Edit: Underripe but edible. I’d imagine it would be perfect for use in galbi marinade.
