You have a fake snake there, right? Otherwise, I have some news which may alarm you.
He’s one of my special garden buddy! Move him around randomly…
Jack in the pulpit is known as a plant that indicates that ginseng may be near by.
Maiden hair fern, bainberry and thriiving american hog peanut … blue and black cohosh are also good ones…
When you see them growing on a hillside… better check for ginseng.
Ginseng is a calcicoles (plant that thrives on forest floors that have high levels of calcium in the soil).
These indicator plants are too.

It does sound like it could probably have ginseng here, but I’ve never tried looking for it yet and if I did see it I might have just thought it was Virginia creeper.
I have probably mentioned this on the red-fleshed thread: Otterson has been ripe October 1st in western New York, which puts that zone 5 or 6 depending on where in NY the report originated. If your tree is well lit by sun and other conditions contribute, Otterson may be ripe just days into October.
Please let us know how they fare. I am growing Otterson, which might bloom first time next year.
Your baskets are always works of art, anji

These are all drops. Freherr von Blepsech (I don’t think it’s supposed to be that orange, but it’s been a very hot summer. It’s not supposed to be ready until early November). Hudson Golden Gem (needs at least two more weeks to color up and have the full honeyed flavor, but bad sunburn on the other side, so it dropped) and Glockenapfel with insect damage (too early, but definitely has that lemonade flavor.)
After a bit of reading, I think my Black Futsu squash cured on the vine…so I may not be far away from eating stage.
They have been orange/tan for weeks.
A quart and a half of beautyberries. Going to make some syrup and jam with them.
