Bulk steel - fencing projects for the orchard

Have a problem with burglary? Spend an hour and for $10 a square foot your burglars have been put on notice to find a new neighborhood. They can shoot your doors with a high powered rifle and it wont penetrate. Please dont actually do that it makes it difficult for EMT and police to save you if you have a stroke. You can do it on the machine shed where you keep your tools. 4x8 =32 sq ft x 10 = $320 for plating for a custom 4x8 door. Yes, 1/2 inch steel plate! That is very very strong! It is so strong i seriously doubt a safe has more metal in it.

I beam’s for $400 each. That is basically an 18 foot anvil ! If you have a bear problem even a grizzly cant get through a fence made of that. If you dropped one of those ibeams in the ground every 36 feet and welded oil stem every 1 foot horizontally that fence might be the one thing left standing in 10,000 years. Red iron building are incredibly strong and increasing in number. That is about all we have that is stronger. The more realistic usage is a nice bridge you can drive your car across a big ditch.

These are what you are looking for. These are great to transfer large amounts of water, etc. From point A to point b. They can bolt together, so literally, they could transfer hundreds of feet. As they said, they are ceramic lined. Wherever they came from, the person knew a lot about building and making things last long term. They could be used as fence posts as well.

C channel makes great fencing. It is cheap enough.

Some people only deal in bulk. Freeman is a good drive. That is about a 80% discount per post.

If it is an inexpensive building you want make it out of metal

I check FB Marketplace around twice a day for 2” x 4” wire fencing and t posts. When I find straight t posts under $3 each, I buy. Right now is one of the rare times when I don’t have a surplus- hopefully that changes before I need 80-100 this December.

My local Walmart put 2x4 wire fencing on clearance several weeks ago- $20-25 per 50’ roll. I’ll be watching for that again next September…

Those steel “gates” would be a must-purchase if it were anywhere near me, not only is that something I’ve hunted for but it is also a very fair price.

Yes, anything within 2 hours is tempting me also. Steel is readily available in my area. More great fence examples and gates.

I found 11 and 13 foot guide rail sections for $25 a piece. Planning to pick them up for my greenhouse roof supports and solar racking.

Thats a really good deal. In this economy i think their are some real bargains to be had. Everyone is telling me they are very tired of 5 or 6 years of economic pain. This is when wealth changes hands for sure. I think those in control of the resources are in control of everything.

I’m hopeful to build something worth sharing and educating others as well.

Heavy duty coral panels could be useful in buffalo, elk, moose etc. Locations

Thanks Clark,

I found some 8" pipe for $13 per foot. Not a super great deal, but probably fair.

I made culverts about 14’ in length, so each culvert cost about $180.

I bought 8 of them. They were all different lengths,so I had to cut and weld them to get the lengths I wanted.

They weigh between 400 and 500# a piece, so I paid less than 50 cents a pound. Like I say, not a great deal, but a fair price. The wall thickness is about 3/8".

I needed culverts which don’t crush down. I’ve crushed those cheap corrugated steel culverts and some thin concrete ones, with heavy trucks running over them.

The concrete culverts weren’t actually legit culverts. They were thinner than most concrete culverts.

I’ve yet to get those broken culverts out and put in the new ones.

Those must have been semi or tractors to crush those into dust like that. Those new pipes wont have any problem.

Actually tractors aren’t too bad, even some of the bigger ones only weigh 20,000 lbs. My little orchard tractor only weighs 7000 lbs.

It’s the darn dump trucks which are so heavy. They carry 30 ton of gravel and weigh about 20 ton empty, depending on size, so weigh as much as 100,000 lbs loaded. I’ve learned those things smash culverts like eggs, if the culverts aren’t beefy.
