That’s how they are supposed to look. A lot of Chickasaw plums don’t hold on the tree well. They go from unripe to mush like lightning in hot summer heat. It often works a little better to pick them mid way through the ripening process and let them finish up inside. When I pick plums to sell the next day at the farmers market, I pick the fairly green because ripe ones can become overripe on the farmers market table in the 4 or 5 hours I’m there on a hot day.

Guthrie on its own roots planted in 2022 gave me a few dozen plums this year. Flowers made it through a 25 degree frost in full bloom. Fully dormant has made it through at least -13 here. Very happy with this variety so far!

Guthrie is one that I would like to grow but I can’t find anywhere to acquire it.
@kelbot remind me in the winter and I can send you scions. They graft easily to P. americana, but best to bury the graft union as they can have some overgrowth issues.
