Clarkinks family heirloom blackberries

Not to cast shade on Clarks Heirloom Blackberries.. but if anyone wants to grow an old timey thorny blackberry that is much more manageable and has the taste of wild blackberries.. now is the time to buy Ebony King at Walmart/Lowes/Home Depots etc etc.

I noticed this year that they have upgraded the packaging as well.

You can start a couple of plants in 5 gallon buckets and remove them in the Fall.. take a few dozen root cuttings before planting and have a row of 50 plants for $20. (or a patch).

I have moved mine to an old fence and they are doing great. I just want to pick them and enjoy them without managing…as if they are wild… but they can easily be trellised.

This grower reviewed Columbia Star, PAF and Ebony King in the PNW which is a much better climate than I have..and rated Ebony King better tasting. I agree but taste is subjective… they are a very tasty berry.

I grabbed a few of Ebony King as well - I just have concerns about the boxes being true to variety due to some of the heritage raspberries being wineberry this year. I was excited that Home Depot had some Glencoe Purples for me to try, but I am hoping that they are also true to variety, haha.

I also picked up a glencoe purple. It was on my list so we went for it. Its definatelt a raspberry, though time will tell if its true to type lol

WOW those packages look way better than what was at my local store. Maybe i’ll go back and see if they’ve got another shipment.
