Crazy Squirrel

Same thing here - You can’t hunt at all, or discharge firearms

While air guns are technically legal, I recall that when my neighbor was legally doing some target practice, up showed the cops with the clear intention of making an arrest, except that the neighbor knew the law and could prove he was within it

Still, you don’t want to attract their attention

For some reason I thought you were in the country. I do wonder, why would the popo care about an air rifle? Maybe it’s because they look too much like a real rifle. I don’t have one, but I imagine that it wouldn’t have a loud report. So how would they even know, unless someone ratted you out?

One squirrel did that much damage? That must be both infuriating and discouraging.

Edit: sorry, apparently air rifles can get loud, I can’t remember shooting one so I was speaking out of ignorance. I suppose if a neighbor could hear it, then they might think you have a real gun. I found this info on some sound tests on some of them.

You just need a silcencer for it, which is sort of a gray area, but last I read the courts say as long as it can’t be fitted to a regular rifle they are legal. (been a couple of year since I checked though) Then your air rifle can be about a quiet is someone catching a baseball in a catchers mit.

Guess that’s one of the perks of living in big city, or 'burbs. I don’t miss it after living in the Dallas area for 30 years. I am especially glad to be free of those infernal HOA’s. I guess they serve some purpose, but man, it’s like a little dictatorship. My HOA said I actually had to have two trees in my front yard, or they’d fine me. The bylaws said no such thing, and we challenged them on it. They had to go to county court to get it changed, and then told us and others to comply. I considered putting a bonsai tree in the yard to mess with them, but ended up putting in a cypress tree.

I do miss the convenience of having just about any kind of store within 15 minutes of the house. Out here in the hinterlands, it’s 20 miles to the nearest department store (if that’s what a Walmart is), or Lowe’s or a decent grocery store.
