It may have been an employee who was dealing with the matter, even keeping the mistake from the attention of the boss.

Cummins once sent me a dozen huge pear trees when I had ordered a dozen raspberries. I don’t recall the names but they were similar (the pear and raspberry names). I think they did the same thing, sent a label for the return.
The reward is for everybody: helping to keep them in business! Personally I think we’ve all become accustomed tobig companies rewarding us simply for buying their stuff, or using their card, or being a regular customer – but those companies operate on way bigger margins, and none of them seem to sell root stocks.
