In our neck of the woods, planting July-October is a no-no.
Depends where you are. Past October where I am the ground will be frozen most years. Planting time is April-May and September to end of October here. Other warmer areas can be much longer and other colder area can be much shorter. Even then I got a potted jujube in the mail from Etsy yesterday and it looks just fine.
Absolutely! I bought two trees from them. They were expensive, shipping was high, the trees were tiny for the cost!
I have never had any trouble with them. They are usually not the cheapest option but very reliable.
OGW has given me much smaller plants/trees than Bay Laurel. Seems like OGW sells 1 year old things and Bay Laurel sells 2 year old things.
Burnt Ridge>Bay Laurel>GrowOrganic>OGW>Raintree
Raintree is bottom of the list for me because they are overpriced on everything.
Regarding OGW and Fig trees.
They’ve sent the wrong figs out to several folks in the last few years but immediately remedy the sales and the buyers end up with a free tree. My CdD Mutante came as advertised and it’s one of my most beloved trees.
Many of the figs I’ve seen from them can come with heavy fmv but also well lignified roots. Some people freak out about that but all it takes is a little food and good soil they spring back and grow strong because the roots. Have to up pot the tree anyways.
Most of their figs have good to really good prices. Excellent customer service to date so I trust them. I also recommend them to my friends.
Tiny trees
Been buying from them for years now. Decide to make a trip to visit them a few weeks ago.
They were so nice and the nursery looked great as well. There’s some things on their website that isn’t listed at all at their nursery. I’m thinking of taking another trip there again to pick up some things that i didn’t have room for earlier.
I got a bunch of free fig cuttings when i visited them and they weren’t stingy with them by any means. They’re also quick with shipping and i like that they don’t hold things just to hold thing.
I’m still waiting for some blueberries to ship from Raintree that was told to have shipped in September/ October. I’ve emailed them several times and they refuse to cancel my order because it’s “with the shipping department” but that was 2-3 weeks ago. I know last time, Raintree didn’t notify me of them not wanting to sell me a tree until like, 2 months after the ship date. Then they told me “it’s out of stock” when i preordered it many moons ago. It seems Raintree will hold your money and refuse to ship if they don’t like you. I’m about to call my card company if i can’t get a hold of them on Monday because this will be the 2nd time they’ve done this to me. I’ve seen the emails of the new owners talking in regards to some customers and I’m probably one of them since they don’t ship accordingly anymore and I’ll complain about that.
One Green World is great and with me, they will ship the upcoming Monday if i order past a Wednesday. I’ve had things ship the same day before even when i lived in Colorado but i buy a lot and my name is unique so i probably have a profile with them as well.
Hey, don’t blame “wildlife”- that’s pretty general. Who be destroying your paw-paws? My East coast wildlife doesn’t even eat the fruit unless the toxic skin cracks when it falls from the bush or tree. White tail dear roam my orchard and nursery with impunity and never so much as nibble on my paw paw plants- my rabbits have never been attracted to them either. They spread by way of their roots and could almost be considered invasive.
However, I guess it doesn’t rain much in Colorado, and your wildlife may reach a level of desperation seldom experienced here in the humid region where a month without rain triggers drought panic.
OGW is pretty much my favorite nursery, for everything except citrus and tropicals. Everything looks good and the pricing is about as good as you can find online.
How do the plants do cross country? I’ve looked at them a couple of times, but I always get nervous about plants having to travel for a week or more in a box. Especially with the likelyhood of delays when things travel so far.
I’ve used them twice. And although I thought the trees were small for the price, especially w/ a $25 shipping charge, they traveled probably 3,000 miles and all are alive and well
If it’s right now where every where is mostly cool, they should do okay. I wouldn’t risk it in the summertime for Florida
I bought 2 1-gal kumquats from them (Meiwa and Nordman seedless) just about 2 years ago. The trees were healthy and the Meiwa bore fruit the first year. This is a picture of them today
I’ve never had them look anything but great. They are only in transit for a few days usually.
They have an air shipping option that I chose because I am ordering pawpaws this year.
My experiences have been all good with One Green World. The fruit trees have been of good size with healthy root systems.
Last year I needed to change something on my order. I got a reply to my email within 2 hours, and the person helping me was knowledgeable about fruit trees. I don’t think that is typical for gardening companies.
I have only ordered 2 trees from them, they were packed well, and I don’t remember them taking long to be delivered.
Although someone I know took 2 weeks to get a plant (NOT from One Green World), and it survived. If a plant is packed well, it will survive even 2 weeks. As long as it’s not delivered during a heat wave, or a blizzard.
Correction I ordered 3 different plants from them. Everything else I said was correct.
