Thanks @Robert … i looked french petite up and it looks pretty much just like Mt Royal size shape and color wise.
I will have to study up on possible pollination partners. It would be nice to get one that ripens before or after Mt Royal.

French petite is also self fertile. So no matter what you will get them. Mine ripens around early september.
Well… that one limb that was still looking healthy… is not looking healthy now.
Think I will try whacking it off 6 inch below that limb and hope something grows back this year.
A shoot developes ???
Any other recommendations?
Sorry to hear about your Rosy G. No need to chase a pollination partner. A six year old Mount Royal can produce 100 lbs of delicious plums with no other European plums blooming for miles. Mine also had 80 lbs coming in year 8, but they never tasted quite right. Year 9 showed why - the tree was dyeing. Plums are hard.
@chinook …
I whacked that RG off 6 inch below that limb… and then again 6 inch below that…
Did not look good.
Before i bought that Mt Royal… i found a Youtube vid of a lady… out west that had one in her yard. It was a mature tree and was producing loads of wonderful fruit for them.
Looks like RG is a gooner… hopefully Mt Royal continues and fruits soon.
This is what i was hoping for in Mt Royal.
I guess they all grow and produce great somewhere…
Robert, you were right. Gave up and dug the satsuma plum up today and there were no root development at all since I planted it, the flush in early spring was from reserved energy.
