Fertilizer going ballistic

im a fisherman and perch are abundant in our waters. they are invasive and the state wants them out. at a local boat launch i can catch maybe 100 in a evening. i freeze them then dig them in my raised beds and under my trees. then i mulch with wood chips. so far no animals have dug them in the last 7 years. very little if any chemicals in them as they are a short lived fish. i also sprinkle a little dolomite lime on them to keep the smell down. i just finished a new raised bed. i layed down goat bedding, then the frozen fish, then composted chic manure then bio char. tom.im getting some potting soil to finish the last 4in. it grows very well for at least 2 years.

The cleanest fish fertlizer around comes from Alaskan sardines but is very expensive and not available in bulk. Are you using ocean perch?

Which one?

I guess theyre tossing the lake perch lol

yep. only a handful of people eat them here. most feed to the eagles and coyotes. non native and out compete our native salmonoid species. im on iceshanty.com and there are heated debates about perch on there. a guy from s. Maine posted a vid of him and his buddies grinding up a couple doz. yellows in a hole with his ice auger. it got so bad he was getting death threats. i prefer just to compost the smaller and eat the bigger ones. because no one targets them they overpopulate, stunt out and starve the natives out. too bad there wasn’t a market for them here. i could become employed as a full time perch fisherman.

Sad part is that perch is very good eating, albeit mighty bony.

Who makes sardine based fish fertilizer?

if filleted properly there should be no bones. perch and crappie make the best fish sandwich, hands down! saved all the perch fillets i got over the winter and having a fish fry for the family once it warms.

Not sure exactly. Recall reading about the foodchain issues with so much pressure on them for variety of animal feeds as well. There may be northern canada sources but am not gambling since I like eating the bluegills from my pond

Agree, OMRI label or even certified organic is a load of BS. I am trying to find a in-between strategy, feed inground plants with compost and meal based fertilizer and new plantings/containers with water soluble salt based ferts.

Based on your conclusive statement I thought you knew which make/brand made the expensive sardine fertilizer.

Sorry so vague. 5-1-1 Alaska emulsion and others labeled wild alaskan, like bloom city etc.

thank you, I have used Alaska 5-1-1, its an excellent product and reasonably priced. Only thing is I can’t stand the odor and use hydrolysates which have relatively less odor.

We are accusing China of using human waste, we are doing the same thing here.
