Free seed potatoes

Hi Moose,

I planted about a dozen potatoes in a large pot and did harvest a small crop.

I would like to try again, if you could email me some with instructions for delivery: sherwindu@att.net

Thanks,

hi Sherwin. i have russets and yukon golds.i ship in a $15 flat rate box no matter how much there is in there because its more expensive other wise. let me know how much you want and your address and ill get them out tom.

I was hoping for some of the other varieties you mentioned: kennebec, katahdin, maine russet, several reds and yukon gold. If you send out several different kinds, are they separately labeled? Would you accept a personal check mailed to you?

those are what are available for free right now. they ran out of the others last week. i heard another place might have some of the others but i would have to go check tom. check is fine or paypal if you have it.

so were are you
my post code is cv63fh

im growing USA Idaho #1 potatoes I bought Twice to eat and had them until they grew eyes and I buried them. I think from the look of them they are a russet variety… Yukon Golds are good producers & make the best baked potatoes. Pontiac reds are another fine eating potatoe. Both are favorites … But this year the idahos just kind of happened . I couldnt waste them so I planted them…
In years past i grew Pontiacs, Kennabecs & Russian Blues & Served Patriotic Potatoes( Red,White& Blue) at our Annual july 4th Family Gathering

They should have titled this article how to create a disaster. I know a guy who was forced to lease his land to tyson for pigs and a few weeks ago they herded them up dug a hole killed and buried them, because there is no one to process and they do not want to keep paying for feed.

That’s not true about noone to process them…if Tyson owns the hogs, and owns the meat packing plant…that’s no excuse!

It’s an apparent paradox - because there are too many hogs, there isn’t enough pork.

The supply chain is just too inflexible.

Imagine if you own the majority of one resource, its in your best interest to create a surge in demand or a lull in supply as you can charge much more and make more profit off the entire debacle.

Look up what they did with the raw aluminum storage market, it is against large industries best interest to not do these things. It becomes the question of incompetence or malfeasance

its a damned shame we don’t have backup plans to save this excess food. just because powdered milk isn’t in fashion , why can’t excess be dried and saved in a food national stockpile. if we had one it would have helped people now instead of relying on local pantries. same with potatoes. i use dried potatoes when in a pinch and any plant thats set up to dehydrate food could do the job. those 2 things are considered survival foods and store forever. if our politicians could stop fighting with each other. maybe something like this could be setup in the future. even if they government doesn’t pay market prices, at least the farmers would get something. i doubt this will happen unless we suffer a true famine unfortunately.

Planted my Yukon Gold and Pontiac Red seed potatoes back on April 6 which is a little late for potatoes in the south. Potatoes don’t do so good in the heat. It takes 14-28 days for the potatoes to sprout. Most of mine are just now beginning to break thru the ground crust!

@moose71 - Great generosity for providing free seed potatoes. I applaud you!!

They arrived today, thank you.

Do I have to wait until they start forming eyes?

nope. just cut into 2 eye chunks and plant about 4- 6in. down with eyes facing up. make sure your soil is good and loose.

would it work in a 3 year old hugelkulture? soil is loose until you get down to the porous rotting wood.

Watering is almost never a problem.

id think so.
