I think it is more for young trees. I saw a Facebook post from Prof Yao a year or two ago that she had only watered the mature jujube in her yard a couple times (in New Mexico) and they had a full crop.

oh yes, that’s the goal! I don’t mind a few years of careful tending if it means long term survival
