Do you have any fruit forming yet?
I think a frost wiped them all out
Sorry to hear that!
My red gem and sweet scarlet have lots of berries on sizing up. A few are starting to show red color.
These two grafts of rain tree select are blooming… may get to try fruit this year.
This is one of my older grafts of carmine… larger berries.
This is my air layer of carmine… it has fruit on now and new growth.

i just planted a Hidden springs goumi rooted plug i bought from fruitwood nursery. anyone grow this or know anything about it?
I grow the Hidden Springs goumi as well - it’s indistinguishable from Sweet Scarlet
This is my first year to have berries on Rain tree and Forrest so I’ve been comparing the fruit size of them to the Tillamook. As of now they all seem to be about the same size but all three are larger than RG and SS. It will be interesting to compare again when they ripen.
I have one AO bush near me in a park that tastes just like fruit punch! It’s amazing! Gonna propagate it this year for sure. Also if you see yellow AO around those always tend to taste pretty good! But once in awhile if you have a park loaded with them there will be one or two bushes that just taste amazing (at least in comparison to the others)
@Auburn … the blossoms on my this spring grafts of raintree select… seem to be lighter… almost white… where RG SS C are more yellow.
Have you noticed that with yours ? Or could it be just blossoms on a new graft issue ?
Also… my RG SS C have fruit set… sizing up… not many blossoms left… but these RTS new grafts are still all blossom no fruit set yet.
Seems they may ripen a bit later (which would be good)… or it could just be blooming later this year because they are on new grafts.
My RG and SS… one ripens about a week and a half before the other. C ripens in between those two.
Just wondering where the RTS will fall in there.
Thanks

i have a A.O plug from fruitwood nursery that’s called fruit punch. it fruited for the 1st. time last summer. was very rich tasting compared to the others.
good thing i only paid $10 for it. i already have red gem and sweet scarlet. if i can get scion wood next year ill graft it over to the bigger fruiting goumi.
I think I see now why these are called ‘autumn olive’.
You are not missing out. They are easy to grow though. I eat maybe a handful per year and leave the rest for the birds.
I checked this morning and there are only a couple of old buds remaining and they do seem a little lighter.
Mine are in bloom
And here I was happy that my winter blooming Elaeagnus pungens berries are ALMOST ripe. My goumi are still in the bloom stage.
I make Aronia soda pop the natural way, with the fiz, i plan to do this with Goumi as soon as i get my first good harvest. it may not be good eating off the tree, but it would a great refreshment. i take flip top beer bottles, clean them up, add the juice and a teaspoon of sugar with i tiny pinch of yeast, the same stuff you make bread from, let it set for 3 to 4 days and you are ready to drink up. no alcohol can be distinguished, so it’s safe to drink if you do not let the yeast go to long.
Our RGs are pretty close to the same ripening time. I only had one that was ripe today.
Must be our Tennessee heat and humidity.
My bushes are in full sun.
