Grafting for complete beginners?

I have never grafted mulberries but my apples, pears, and pluots look like yours do as the buds swell and the scion is about to pop out with new leaves. Love to see a followup picture in a few days. Bill

It just doesn’t look like there was enough swelling of this bud to pop the parafilm like that. I’ll keep watching it. I have several buds growing. Here is the biggest–one of the side grafts.

I know it’s exciting to examine every graft daily when you get started. You’ll soon fine that it’s sort of like watching a clock. The more you stare at it the slower it goes. You’ll get to the point where you graft and then don’t look at them at all for 3 weeks. By that time you can get a pretty good idea about which ones took and which ones will fail.

Yep…like watching paint dry! I’m about to get to the point of “oh well…it will or it won’t…”. But it has been exciting and next year I want to do some that matter…

I still like to check my grafts frequently but right now I’m enjoying checking last years grafts to see which is going to have flower buds.
