I’ve wondered about that with my Owari satsuma. After I finish harvesting all my fruit each year I only cover (in zone 7) my satsuma whenever I think there’s any chance temperatures could drop into the mid-teens (which is how cold hardy I understand satsumas are supposed to be), but where’s the line where I should be protecting my tree when there’s fruit on it? I’ve been covering it pretty much anytime temperatures are below freezing so long as there’s still fruit on my tree, but I’ve wondered if I could get away fine with doing less.
