Grafting with actively growing scions

This just happened Dennis to one of my wild goose plum trees, a side limb got too overgrown top heavy so a wind storm took it out. I pushed it back up, and tied it into a position more securely and rewrapped the breakpoint to allow it to regrafted. Now this summer I will air layer it just above the break and hopefully get enough roots by winter to severe it off as a new tree.

Thanks for your post! I was thinking about the best way to reutilize my greenwood scions from a faulty graft union that may not support a heavy fruit load, so I was wondering if anyone had success do this!
Can you recall the time of year you used green scions on persimmon?
Please advise

Hi Dennis,

It’s interesting that you revived this post now! I just did two green wood apple grafts yesterday… obviously it is too early to tell their success. The previous time I did it (which I mentioned in my post above), was a nectarine, not persimmon, and I think it was in June too. It grew some leaves, but didn’t grow much in the same season, yet in the following season it took off!

I never did a green wood grafting with persimmons.
