I see you fell in somewhere ? Be careful, especially us men with lifting heavy things we tend to get lower back problems. That is why if there is heavy lifting to be done, get the wife, they donât get lower back problems 
Nice going. Once youâre done and the place is filled up, there may come a time when you think perhaps you should have gone double story.
One thought. You sink the ground level to maintain better heat, right ? But isnât the excavated part not also going to drop in temperature, with the heat moving back from the surface ?

The idea with a pipe like that is to maintain 52 degrees F coming out of that pipe year round. All day i will be pushing heat underground in the winter but at night I will be pulling it back out of the ground.

100%, that will work very well.
Remember to put a grid on the inlet to keep critters from moving into the pleasant heated area. I had mice nesting in the compost heap because it is so warm and cozy there.

Im working out the details on that. Im also considering sending water down the air vents to clean them out sometimes.

I have a question, should be obvious though.
If a tree get all the nutrients it needs, shouldnât the roots remain shorter ?
A hungry tree in my opinion will seek far and wide to feed/maintain itself ?
I think so because I tilled the sweet potato patch today and the tiller ripped a 25mm (1â) root out from a neighborâs tree 10m away, it passed under two walls and the second wall foundation is at least 300mm thick and as deep.
I rescued some earthworms, nice ones too. I was wondering if there are earthworms in your cold climates ?

My thinking is that the roots mainly go in search of water. Roots canât grow in dry soil and water is essential for nutrient uptake. But I donât know how much water or nutrients affect the size of a treeâs root system.

My opinion is trees are like children in this respect regarding roots. The healthier food, and the more the quantity of healthy food you feed them the bigger they get. I realize genetics can be a limiting factor. A bonsai is controlled by its restricted environment. Short roots means a tree cannot update all the nutrients available. The longer the roots the larger the tree will grow because it can uptake more nutrients over a larger area. I would go to the next county in search of a good steak. Most people would pursue good healthy food. Why would a plant be different regarding nutrition? As fruitnut said it will chase water and nutrients even if it has all it can uptake at the moment. Like anything the bigger it gets the more it consumes and the more it seeks more to consume until it dies or slows down due to old age.
