Many of these old ancient trees im unsure of variety on that were not producing in 2016 are going to produce now in 2022 6 years later. That means some of them are producing there first pears in year 12 -15. Ayers is really all about rootstock when it comes to production. This may be true of Clara frijs as well. Clara frijs keeps giving me dustings of blooms on full sized callery but no huge crop as I would have expected even at over 10 years old! Be careful they may be better suited for ohxf333.
Just an update to this old thread on mislabeled pears. Nearly 100% of my original pears were mislabeled which is fascinating when I look back on it. Red Bartlett was actually ayers. Kieffer was not kieffer. Itās OK I get some great surprises that way! I have a new pear that is truly exceptional but I have no idea what it is yet. I grafted it but a pack rat but have used my aluminum tag for a wedding gift to his beloved.
Are you saying the ones you labeled above were blushing red bartlett were actually ayers? and the āimproved kiefferā were also something else? I am hoping to try to ID some of my pears using your pics! I want to make sure Iām keeping it all straight.
Ayers are the red blushing bartlett. That is correct. Many pears have different names from different people or groups. Ewart is also Karls favorite. Many people think magness is warren but its not though they look identical. Yes i would highly recommend using my photos if i see a mistake or a synonymous name i point it out.
