It sounds like he’s in Kyiv if the translation is correct.
Someone posted this picture of a mostly hybrid line up on a Facebook group. It’s nice to see a representation of their potential.
Thanks for sharing that information. I bought Nikita’s Gift and Sestronka scionwood from England’s Orchard and Nursery and grafted them to D. virginiana seedlings. But I didn’t have any other information about the relative sizes of the fruit or the ripening times. What I purchased as Sestronka may have been mislabeled, but it does seem like a hybrid in terms of the size of the fruit (bigger than most D. virginiana fruit and smaller than most D. kaki fruit) and the flavor being something in between.
Let’s the Hybrid persimmons breeding program in Omaha begin.

You go, Tony!
Excellent selection, Tony. Will any of these go in the ground for testing or will you keep them potted?
All the hardier ones will be in the ground next April of 2024 because I don’t want to loose any of them this winter and give them a chance to grow one season first. Taishu and some of not hardy ones will stays in pots until flowers for cross.
Tony
I’m tempted to keep a bunch in pots because they’ll probably fruit sooner so I can evaluate their gustatory qualities before deciding who gets space in the ground.
In my experience, the fruit from trees grown in pots has different characteristics than from trees grown in-ground.
That’s a good point, Richard.
I think the genetics will be the same at the end goal in pots . We may get them to flowers a few years sooner in pots. I am getting old. Lol.
Good thing is that we also get ugly as we get old. I’m not sure which is winning at this point, ugly? or old?
I recognize a bunch of those trees! Dax has been busy.
Yes.
Dax and I got close to exact copies of all the hybrid persimmons and We are in a race to see who can get to the end goal first. But I am at 57 yrs old and I think he may get there first but that is Ok. Whatever We can accomplish now to benefit the future for Z5 or Z4 hybrid persimmons growers then I am all good.

Is anyone getting PVNA-like JT-02? Some of mine show this trait. This is so weird.
The flavor was very rich like Nishimura Wase mixed with a hint of virginiana-like caramel.
That picture is delightful. It makes me glad I put JT-02 in!
Your JT-02 fruit Looks awesome.
Pretty exciting. Now you just need to be brave enough to try some that are still firm and see if they are really acting as PVNA!
I’m just shooting in the dark with this, but did you happen to notice that they all came from the same branch or part of the tree? Any chance it is a sport of the “regular” JT-02.
Beautiful fruit. Was it seeded? I ask because PVNA changes to flesh color and astringency all depend on seeds.
Yes! There were 4 large seeds but the seeds were a little wrinkly. They all sank so I saved them for future attempts at germination.
Walter, it would be fantastic if I could eat these firm. However, I cannot for the life of me differentiate pollinated vs unpollinated fruit in this variety through superficial observations.
I hadn’t thought about them perhaps coming from a particular branch. That’s an interesting thought. There’s no way of knowing now because the tree was picked clean a week ago and the fruit are all mixed up now.
I had posted pictures of this phenomenon last year, but I had fewer examples, and the examples did not show completely black flesh unlike the one above.
