Peach scale? It is most likely either that or fungus feeding on dead wood caused by temperature related cambium injury.
Thanks in Advance.
I hope to more solidly identify and treat an issue gripping my Flavor Grenade. It causes lesions on new growth (as shown below pic) and also swelling of older wood (almost like black knot). It hits around beginning of summer when heat and humidity hits around my area. My thoughts are that it could be same bacterial canker @jaypeedee mentions FG is susceptible to. Out of dozen, no other Zaiger interspecific has this issue for me.
I also suspect canker. At that size, I just remove that twig.
Thanks. The lesions are actually all over the lower canopy. Upper canopy from 5 to 10 feet seem free of lesions. Perhaps the canker source is ground-born and is getting splashed onto the lower branches from rain.
I could try to remove all the lower canopy as a last ditch effort, though it would create a spindly tree with very tall initial branching, which was what I tried to avoid. But it might be worth it if it could resolve this tree’s issue.
Usually, I try to keep trees healthy with fertilizer and sufficient water. Healthy trees can overcome some canker problem.
