Improved Chokecherry Cultivars?

they are here as well. the older folks like them in jams and such but back then there was little cultivated fruit so they used to make chokecherry and highbush cranberry jams as that was all they had.

I did a preserve a few years back and did not care for it. It did improve a fruit wine adding the tannins it was lacking but I donā€™t do those (prefer to make cider and beer).

Heck Iā€™m not even a big fan of messing with preserving Nanking cherries and those taste better. I keep meaning to stop by a guy that has a few bushes that bear large fruit. Nankings are not a variety, they are a whole species; I keep coming across producing plants whose fruit quality and size are all over the place.

Iā€™m yet to come across a chokecherry worth eating.

i planted a bunch of improved white and red Nankingā€™s from Hartmannā€™s last spring. supposed to be bigger and tastier. weā€™ll see.
