I do have a hosta planted by the road that is doing ok even though is does get some salt when the road is salted in the winter but I don’t know how much it will take. Some sedums can tolerate salt. I’ve had some by the road for years. They have even occasionally seeded themselves. Problem is getting enough of them to cover a 20’ boarder.
Most hostas spread slowly but some can spread quickly. I bought one small hosta in a pot and divided it into 3 small plants. This photo shows them after about 15 yrears. They form a 15 ft long boarder. I’ve dug some up multiple times to plant in other areas and gave some away. I could do a boarder 200 feet long with the ones I have that would fill in in 3 or 4 years. What I don’t like is cutting off the dead flowers when the flower die.
