Jujubes- Our New Adventure

That website is fantastic. Looks like red is the way to go, especially with my wet clay soil. Any idea where I can get mulberries to try, hopefully to select a variety we like? I’m not sure I’ve ever had one.

Big trees are fine, my trees are about 20 feet apart, and I can pick a spot where it won’t shade out the others. I think pear is supposed to grow a lot, so maybe I’ll put it next to one of those.

Hmm, then perhaps a SC with HJ grafted to it? I don’t need too many giant trees.

Bummer about the cherries. I guess I’ll just let that dream die.

I don’t have the story on it, but I think it came from Cliff. Mine fruited for the first time this year, but the squirrels got every one of them, so I have no idea how it tastes. It had a very heavy set (without GA3) and the fruit was pretty large. The largest was getting close to the biggest Shanxi and Redlands.

Here’s what they looked like before they vanished.

The website is done by @Livinginawe. It truly is fantastic!

Mulberries aren’t found in stores. In spring I’ll have some of the varieties I have. Three of my trees are very young and I have the large IE. They are very sweet and most have a bit of tartness. I have one called Miss Kim and all it is is sweet. Not one of my favorites but my husband likes it.

They grow wild around these parts so ask around if anyone knows where a good one is.

At least its healthy!

I tried to get some info on Miss Kim mulberry with a new thread earlier this year, but no luck.
Is it prolific? How big are the mulberries? What don’t you like about it, too sweet?

Most of my Black Sea fruit look more like your Massandra with pointed ends. It’s from OGW.
My Sihong is twice the size of my other trees because it’s so vigorous, but it sets just a few fruit. My Sihong leaves are light green instead of dark green like all the other jujubes.

Jujubes are more mislabeled than other fruit I have seen. It could be that they have been translated from Chinese, Korean, Russian, etc. and got lost in translation.

Also, some nurseries here names some varieties themselves. Varieties have gotten so messy that it makes anyone’s head hurts.

Tigertooth is not the best variety for my place and zone. It still have green leaves, just started to wrinkle a bit. Shanxi li dropped it’s leaves weeks ago. Fruited much before tigertooth, which ripened few days ago (fruits turned brown). I will graft almost all branches of tigertooth. Will leave only one of tigertooth for diversity. I’m not impressed with taste also. Have to dry some fruit and see if they are good dried, supposedly they are for drying.

Does Autumn beauty very thorny? My AB has very long pins on almost every nod of the twist side branches. I bought AB&WD from Burnt Ridge this year. They are too small to bear any fruit. Just hope I got a right one.

Does anyone have an Admiral Wilkes that is big enough to cut scionwood?

I have 2 So Contorted that I need to move. They were only planted last April and are under 2 feet tall. Any special considerations I should give when digging them up?
