Looking For Some New Peach Varieties

There are definitely better white peaches out there. Its strength is that it blooms about a week later than most peaches in my area and shows some bloom frost tolerance. It is my hardest peach to pick at the right time. It has a green background that goes to a cream color when it is ripe. If you can catch it right, it is pretty good. If you miss the window, it becomes mushy quickly. I haven’t noticed uneven ripening though. We usually pick it a little green when we start to taste some sugar and let them counter ripen. I grow China Pearl and Reliance because in my area there are years that they are about the only peaches that produce. In my opinion, they are only fair tasting, but I have some customers who can’t get enough of them. Are you looking for a white peach that is late blooming and/or frost tolerant?

I’m not really looking for a white peach, I’m just experimenting with what peaches I can fruit here in my Z4b in upstate NY. The info you shared about ripening is a huge help, I have no experience with peaches. I also had Contender fruit this year and those were very good and ripened consistently, 2-3 weeks before China Pearl. I’m adding Reliance and Veteran next spring. Other varieties planted are Red Haven, Intrepid, and Carolina Gold. They’re just experimental in addition to my 678 current apple and pear trees. Thank you Joel!

Would that be, “china pearl”? I’m in z3. Next spring putting in some reliance on the krymsk1 rootstock. Harvested our first lapins cherries and williams pride apples this year so you just don’t know lest you try.
May I ask what zone you are in?
All for my daughter’s market garden/orchard business, so frankly whatever we can grow that she can sell I’m all in. Thanks.

Contender is pretty hard to beat. I’ll bet Veteran will do well for you. Buds are winter hardy and blooms have really good frost tolerance. It’s a pretty good tasting yellow peach. A lot of people like to can Veteran peaches. 678 apples and pears will keep you busy!

I’ve had good results with flamin fury lucky 13 on Lovell in southern PA. Adams county nursery sells lots of different flamin fury varieties.
