Madison Citrus Nursery Review

I’ve pretty much never not been impressed with the trees from Madison Citrus. Those guys run a tight ship.

I ordered three citrus trees from Madison Citrus on Saturday, and they arrived today. The trees were packaged very well and showed no signs of damage. I potted them in 3-gallon containers upon arrival.

I was especially eager to receive them since Madison Citrus recently started offering some new varieties I hadn’t seen before. I ended up purchasing a Leanri Mandarin, a Henderson Ruby Grapefruit, and an Owari 874 Satsuma.

My name is Gina and I am a plantaholic. But I am not interested in recovery, only more land.

the plants from MCN come with thin metal stakes that they are held upright with. when can tall citrus like these be left to their own devices or will leaving them tied up not pose a problem? im not referring to the wooden ones that are used to keep the plants in place during shipping.

Unless it’s girdling the tree it’s not causing a problem. If they’re going outdoors and going to endure the elements you might keep them staked up for a year or two. If you’re going to let them fruit soonish keeping them staked might be a good idea too.

they are going to be out in the elements while they can here in iowa. then indoors for the winter. a couple plants have fruits up at the top. though, one of them dropped two of its 3 fruits the other day after ~3 months since flowering. maybe thats normal for young grafted plants. ill restake them with something stiffer.
