Actually the order would be Reliance, Intrepid, Contender.
From my memory, Reliance ripened -5 for me. I haven’t harvested Intrepid yet, but it’s supposed to ripen +14. I’ve harvested Contender for quite a few years and it picks about +21.

Thanks Olpea. Then maybe Intrepid is better for me, as I wouldn’t be waiting as long for Contender to ripen after the Redhaven I have. The NCSU website really talks up its hardiness, and I need that -20F hardiness in my frost pocket yard.

Any updates from our buds in that area, including @Derby42, @Jwsemo? Seeing a lot of frozen precip in southern Missouri, moving north. I know it’s still early, and the worst will prob be this evening.
It is mostly just rain here, I think the ice is just north of us today so we should be fine. We had ice on elevated surfaces this morning but just a thin layer. I was able to make it to work fine, the road were warm enough that they were just wet. I did bust my rear on our front steps. My wife had checked them and said they were slick but I hadn’t salted them yet. I had been out the back door and it was fine. I stepped out on to the front porch and it was real slick as I stepped from the top landing to the first step my feet shot out from underneath me. Somehow with my cat like reflexes , insert laughter, I flipped over in the air and landed mostly on one arm and just bearly doted my cheak bone with the top step. If I had it on film I would be a YouTube hit, lol.

Yikes Jason, I guess it’s funny in hindsight, but I’m just glad you didn’t get hurt bad. Those kind of falls can end badly.
It reminds me of something that happened to me last year. We have laminate flooring in our home, but at the entrance to the front door, we have some peel and stick tile that I put down soon after we moved in. We usually have a rug there at that landing to help clean off our boots, shoes, etc.
One day Mrs Dood was doing some cleaning, and had removed that rug. Well, I was in my sock feet and went out thru that door. When I came back in, and stepped on that slick tile, yep, whooop! my feet went out from under me and I landed hard on my side, putting my hand down to cushion my fall, and my wrist got badly sprained. I didn’t go to the doc, as I didn’t think I broke it, but it hurt for about a week.
When I fell, I blamed her for my clumsiness, but for some reason, she wouldn’t take the blame! Oh well, motto of the story is, look out below!

Yes those falls can hurt, I was lucky. I have slipped on our steps before but that was by far the worst. All is well that ends well but in all seriousness that ice is no joke.

The Ice storm warning is in affect for the Omaha area around 12AM tomorrow. Last week Ice storm caused so many accidents and broken arms and hips. I spent 14 hours passing gas that day. It was horrible.

We are getting the ice storm here in NE Kansas as rain instead of ice so we are feeling extremely fortunate.

The rain turned into Ice right now. Luckily all the students have the day off tomorrow due to the holiday.

We have a thin 1/8" layer of ice today. Close to 32 degrees so it is trying to melt as it forms. Walks and roads are slick but doesnt really seem to be building up on the trees and lines yet.

Unfortunately for western Kansas they were hit hard by this ice storm and my understanding is they are still without power in many locations. The way it rained here had that been freezing rain even the largest trees would have been broken down.

We ended up with around 1/4" on most trees and such. The temperature stayed around freezing so the roads were definitely slick in spots, but should be clear by tomorrow afternoon. We had around .75 " of rain so if it had been just a little colder with any kind of wind we would have been in big trouble. Glad to hear that alot of us dodged the worst of it.

It’s been a nasty storm that’s been taking its time leaving the area. Guess it’s finally on its way out. We’ve had a lot of rain from this system, we had an inch Sat, and about a quarter inch yesterday.
It was kinda nice today, close to 60, but it’s raining here again as I type. They’re calling for a round of rain overnight, then that should be it for a few days. Our lawn has went from bone dry a month ago to spongy wet now.
Sounds like some folks got hit pretty bad, but doesn’t seem as bad as they were predicting.
