I’d like to add potentially two more berries to the conversation: Darwin’s berry and osoberry. Can anyone share their experience with either of these two less talked about berries? Osoberry is also native to the west coast, but Darwin berry is from South America.

Osoberry tastes like bitter cucumber for me but as they ripen they get less bitter. Birds love them so I don’t know how they taste if left to hang. Swincher said that some near his house that taste sweeter

Found thimbleberries growing in the mountains in utah- so delicious! They were juicy, staining, and the kids loved them.
On the same hike, we found wild raspberry, wood rose and Utah serviceberry. The wild raspberry was delicious. Didn’t pick rose hips. The Utah serviceberry was beautifully ripe and totally tasteless.

Those look just like purple flowering raspberries!
Today I found and ate many berries. Three that fit into the misc category are purple flowering raspberry which was delicious, teaberry or wintergreen which I love and prefer underripe, autumn olive which tastes like fruit punch and astringency, and hobble bush which tastes like a raisin banana mush with 89% less sugar.
I just looked online and a lot of people say purple flowering raspberries taste bad… Well all the ones where I was tasted delicious. They’re better than the wild blackberries I had and in the range of something store-bought. Way tastier than a bad store-bought raspberry but a little seedier (nice crunch, not annoying or bitter like blackberry seeds). Probably around where my Caroline raspberries were in terms of flavor. Maybe the growing conditions were perfect? Maybe the original describers wanted to keep it a secret to themselves?
