More Cold!

Well, if we are going to make wishes, I’m hoping for a relatively dry summer and unanimously high quality fruit again on the east coast…

I’m really sick of this cold. I saw -22F on my way home last night at 10:30pm so I’d guess it may have gotten colder before sunrise this morning.

Notice how people from California or the Pacific Northwest never post on these threads?

Seems like the moisture pattern form last summer hasn’t stopped yet. It’s been raining or snowing all winter here.

The winter warm spells have been very brief this year. My fruit buds are the smallest I’ve seen them in years. That is a good thing, I hope.

Yes, I’m a bit worried about the sudden drop in Nov but fruit buds I’ve checked are not brown.

That sounds awesome. I think i’d go to Vietnam.

Winter sucks (here). No other way to describe it. If it’s not cloudy for weeks, it’s sunny and frigid…the snow turns to ice…the ice melts and floods.

Denver or along the front range somewhere would be my destination of choice. Dry air, lots of sun, access to real mountains… it gets cold, but it warms quickly…snow melts quickly…

Brrr! 54F here today and lemon tree is blooming. Supposed to get to 36F on Tuesday.

I’m worried if my trees are even alive. This might be the year i redo everything.

Any of my trees that are dead won’t get replaced. By the time they’d be ready to fruit, I’ll probably be too decrepit

I’ve got one new nect coming in, given how fast they bear fruit, but that’ll be it.

I’m in the Pacific Northwest and we have been getting Upper Midwest weather for over a month now. Horizontal snow, single digit temps. It’s really getting old. It was 5 degrees this morning and blowing hard. Looking forward to a low of 1 degree tonight. On one of our nicer mornings, it looked like this:

This is today’s view overhead from Modis… mostly of Wisconsin, E MN… Southern edges of Lake Superior are all iced up. Even some ice out on Lake Michigan (probably formed near shore and got pushed out by the wind… Lots of snow to melt.

Little closer look of the Apostle Islands (Lake Superior)… i think you could walk/bike out to them right now.

That’s not normal is it? Yes, I’m laughing.

No. Although, to be truthful, I’d be laughing too if it wasn’t happening to me.

im afraid all this snowpack will rip many the branches off my trees and bushes as it melts! last winter we had less snow than we have this winter and it still did some serious damage. my high bush blueberries barely had any 2nd year growth left to produce any fruit! think its going to be much worse this year. then there are the voles I’m sure are wreaking havoc under all this snow. winter kill from the cold is the least of my worries!

I don’t understand. how does melting snow rip off the branches?

the compacted weight will do it. you won’t understand until you see it. as it melts it pulls down on the branches ,tearing them from the plant.

I can imagine, I think. Ouch.

you guys don’t get the snow we get. the moisture is good but the weight of snow isn’t! nature prunes every thing for me and its not what i choose to prune!
