Mystery raspberry cultivar

yep. the floricane crops 2 different times so the tag i lost claims. i havent watched them closely so im not sure of the timing. kind of forgot about it. i will now and post results here. its possible the 2nd cropping may be too late for here. ill keep an eye out when the primocane crop ripens. that may be too late for here as well. had heritage but lost half the fall crop due to it fruiting too late so i removed them. i also have polka and himbo top. the berries shape is similar but these are big like a med- large blackberry.

Oh really? That rings a bell about some observation data for accessions at NCGR Corvallis. From here NCGR Rubus:

  • change the Update limit to 10000
  • click on Show x rows and select All
  • click the Excel button. You’ll download a spreadsheet containing all the accessions and the observation data.

if huge and late, it sounds like Crimson Giant (the daughter of Titan, a huge Cornell floricane) and grand-daughter of Hilton, also huge and at the time the largest in the US. It was bred to be huge.

huge conical fruit with red colored primocanes, thorns, vigorous (much more than himbo top!), tall and thorns

it is late though and has another clue - on young emerging leaves, it is known for lighter pigmented leaf coloring at its leaf edges

Stark’s sold something similar “improved Titan”

I am curious so please follow up

The biologists at the Rubus and Ribes conference two weeks ago in Portland made a clear distinction between spines on Rubus vs thorns on other Rosaceae. :slightly_smiling_face:
