I read that the rationale for the Musketeer series was for better compatibility with European black currant harvesting machinery, which is different from what’s used in Canada.
Good catch @TheDerek Apparently those of us north of the 49th will get a chance to buy the D’artagnan. How do you pronounce that? But no mention of the other 2 varieties. Plant sale - University of Saskatchewan Fruit Program - University of Saskatchewan
i have montmorency, 2 juliet ,1 romeo, 2 carmine jewel and 1 lutowka polish sour cherry just starting to produce. i shouldnt have any shortage of cherries soon but if my mont. is a poor producer ill just graft over the other cherries on to it so i dont have to start over with a new tree in that spot when i already have a great rootstock established there already.
I checked around, and Floramaxx will be selling the new D’Artagnan cherries (and a few others) in the spring of 2022. Last time I checked, they do not have the royalty license to sell cherries to US based customers, but I hear that is in the works as well.
It looks like d’Artagnan got the certified virus index and has been released to the propagators, so theoretically it could be imported into the US. Agriforest was said to be the first company to get it. It’s not even on their website yet.
I’ve never seen anyone post about getting plants from them so they probably only work with the wholesellers and don’t mess with small individual buyers.
It looks like it’s starting to creep into the Canadian market (although it is sold out at the moment). How long until it crosses the border?

Id guess it depends on its commercial viability…
And where is Aramis?
