Newbie Trying Cherries in Pots

The new Sevin’s main ingredient is zeta cypermethrin. It has the same ingredient as Mustang Maxx, (which requires a license to use).

I don’t keep up with the chemical names of even all the products I use. My old brain needs to stick to categories, like neonic and pyrethroid. I’m losing storage space and have too many items I can’t throw away. I believe Mustang Max to be about equally affective as Asana. However, no one has bothered to get Asana packaged for residential use and a gallon of it is even too much for me. I don’t know how long it keeps.

I think the main issue with liquid pyrethroids may be keeping quality and packaging for residential use often lacks an expiration date. They also lose efficacy during high heat weather, so if spring becomes summer too quickly you may not get the same control. That is based on what I’ve read, in my experience Asana has been consistently affective.

@fruitnut has a good post history of stone fruit in pots. I believe they found that they were able to control the Brix of the fruit by water control. That water control would be great in the mid Atlantic, since we get so much rain and it can crack the cherries.

I have seen some larger trees in pots, but the others are right, without an Airpot or grow bag, the tree will eventually lose vigor and start to die. you can root prune the tree, like many do with figs, but I am unsure of the pruning tolerance a cherry tree has. Either way, fancy pot or no, you will eventually need to either get a larger container or prune the roots.

I have a potted dwarf nectarine that seems to be doing fine, and I just let it root out the bottom of the pot.

There is a lady on youtube who has a bunch of potted plants that seem to be producing well enough. Here is a video of her cherry

I have the same interest of potted plants, and have had the same difficulty finding pictures, examples, guides or any long term documentation of potted fruit trees. All the videos online for apples even just show the planting, not the 5 year update.
