Phil,. Nice Harvest. Do you have a green house for these guys or just place them by the window with supplement of light bulbs.

I kind detail above no greenhouse and don’t even put in my sun room I drag in and out of cold dark garage. They hated my sunroom

I’m not sure if this is helpful at all, but last winter I overwintered evergreen strawberry and lemon guavas indoors at a north facing window and they did just fine and even put on growth - however that new growth got sunburned when I put it outside in the spring. We don’t heat our home in the winter save for one fireplace on the other side of the house from where I kept the guavas - I’m sure it stayed above freezing, but at night nobody keeps the fire going and it can be really cold sometimes… we are in upstate NY zone 5b/6a. I have way too many plants to try citrus at the moment - but I imagine they would survive similar conditions? Can anyone confirm this before I try?

Janet- I think you may have a similar situation to ours, cold winters and wood heat. That was where our citrus spent it first 4 or 5 years until there was a GH for them. It did work, but had issues with leaf drop until I could get some additional heat to the pots. And I learned to bring them in earlier than it seemed I ā€œneededā€ to.

Can they fruit in those conditions until I have a GH? Not just lemons, but perhaps also mandarins?

Don’t know about mandarins never grew them. But my Meyers lemons and key lime did grow and fruit inside. Of course it can’t be going near or below freezing on the outside wall where they are located, and I suspect they will be much happier if it stays warmer. But mine grew from the little twigs they were when I bought them into decent sized bushes inside (they did go outside in the summer months).
